This is an exciting opportunity in North Charleston, SC for a Material Planner. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Key Responsibilities

Provides Direct Materials management for the Plant in support of its day-to-day operations:

  • Forecasting and planning for both finished goods and purchased items.

  • Manufacturing line scheduling and leveling.

  • Monitor supplier’s performance.

  • Ordering, releases, schedule updates for purchased components.

  • Cycle counts and inventory management.

  • Material expediting and control of freight costs.

  • Introduction of new parts and management of transitions/obsolescence.

  • Manage inventories to Plant targets (using P/N by P/N analysis and other improvement tools).

  • Performs all required Oracle transactions and monitors for systems accuracy.

  • Support Line Side presentation techniques throughout the operations.

  • Support and lead improvements to Materials Functional Excellence.

  • Maintains desk procedures.

  • Provide Materials Team backup and coverage during vacations and absenteeism.

  • Coordinates activities with the Supply Chain Group to drive improvements (i.e. cost reductions, report cards).

  • A/P resolution of supplier invoices.

  • Support other plant ad hoc teams.

  • Comply with all controls in required time and accuracy.


Skills: Experience

  • 2 years experience of MRP /Planning systems preferred

  • Shipping / Receiving experience a plus

  • Automotive / High volume environment / manufacturing experience a must.

  • Oracle experience a plus

Skills: Functional and Technical

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent PC skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Cycle counting.

  • Inventory management / reduction.

  • Must have a high level of interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrates leadership ability.

  • Ability to work in a team based work environment.

  • Strong initiative with capacity to work unsupervised and manage multiple projects.

  • Ability to pay strong attention to detail.

  • Turbocharger product knowledge a plus.
